Lo-lo (lift on-lift-off)

Nautical Term: Lo-lo (lift on-lift-off)

Definition of Lo-lo (lift on-lift-off)

Lo-lo, also known as lift on-lift-off, is a cargo handling method used by vessels for loading and unloading. This process is facilitated by either ship or shore cranes.

For instance, a cargo ship docks at a port, and the crew prepares to unload the cargo using the lo-lo method. They connect the ship’s cranes to the cargo, and then the cranes are used to lift the cargo off the ship and transfer it to the shore cranes, which then transport the cargo to its final destination.
