Definition of Upper works
—The upper works, or superstructures, of a ship refer to the structures located on or above the weather deck. These erections can include various facilities such as accommodation blocks, engine rooms, funnels, mast, and bridge. Sometimes, this term is used collectively to refer to a ship’s entire above-water structure.
