Nautical Term: Vapor Header

Definition of Vapor Header

A vapor header is a pipeline that connects to the top of a cargo tank. This pipeline channels displaced tank vapors to a shoreside control system. For instance, during the offloading process of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, the LNG vapors produced as the LNG cargo is offloaded, are safely channeled through a vapor header pipeline to the shoreside control system for further processing and safe disposal.
