Definition of VEL

Velocity, also referred to as Vel s, is a measure of the speed at which a ship or other watercraft moves through the water. For instance, if a cargo ship is traveling at a velocity of 12 knots, it means that the ship is covering a distance of 1 nautical mile every 5.46 minutes or 1 knot every 3 minutes and 19.8 seconds.
