Nautical Term: WIFPON
Definition of WIFPON
WIFPON is a nautical term used to describe a situation where a ship is not in Free Pratique but continues to trade or transfer cargo with other ships.
For instance, consider the following scenario: Two cargo ships, the ‘Albatross’ and the ‘Seagull’, are anchored in the same bay, awaiting their turn to enter the port and offload their cargo. While waiting, the ‘Albatross’ receives clearance to enter Free Pratique but the ‘Seagull’ does not. Nevertheless, despite not being in Free Pratique, the ‘Seagull’ is able to trade or transfer cargo with the ‘Albatross’.
