Definition of Yaw

Yaw refers to the sideways rotational movement of a vessel around its vertical axis. This movement can be caused by strong winds or currents, or by inadvertent actions of the helmsman. For instance, ‘The sudden gust of wind caught the sailboat off-guard, causing it to yaw sharply to the starboard side.’
