Nautical Term: SSBA
Definition of SSBA
Surface-Supplied Breathing Apparatus (SSBAs) refers to a type of diving equipment that supplies the diver with air from the surface. This equipment is used in deep-sea or commercial diving where the diver needs to spend extended periods underwater.
For instance, in a commercial diving operation, the diver might use an SSBA to work on underwater structures such as oil rigs or dams. The diver would be connected to the surface with an umbilical cord, which supplies the diver with air, electricity, and communication signals.
