Nautical Term: Aframax
Definition of Aframax
Aframax is a nautical term used to describe the largest dry bulk carriers. These vessels are capable of transporting large volumes of dry bulk cargo, such as coal, grain, and iron ore.
For example, a shipping company might charter an Aframax bulk carrier to transport coal from South Africa to Europe. The ship would load the coal at the port of origin and then sail across the Atlantic Ocean to deliver the coal to the port of destination.
