Definition of Becket
:A small eye in a rope used for securing the hook of a block. An alternative to a rowlock, a grommet made of rope is used as a replacement. Furthermore, a small piece of rope with an eye at each end is utilized to keep the feet of a sprit connected to the mast. In essence, any small rope or strap used as a handle or for securing a component can be considered a becket.
Example:
During a storm at sea, the crew was forced to secure the sails to prevent them from tearing. In this situation, the sailors used beckets, which were small rope grommets, to secure the ropes to the wooden blocks. By utilizing beckets, the sailors were able to quickly and securely attach the ropes to the blocks, ensuring that the sails remained secure during the storm.
