Definition of Bilge

:Bilge refers to (1) the curved intersection or transition of the bottom and sides of a ship’s hull, and (2) the lowest points within the compartments of the hull, where liquids such as water or oil may accumulate.

For instance, while sailing through rough waters, the ship’s bilge pumps might be activated to remove excess water that had accumulated in the bilge compartments.
