Nautical Term: BL (1)
Definition of BL (1)
Bale, or BL (1), a unit of measure for grain, fibers, or other bulk cargos. The term ‘bale’ comes from Old English ‘balan,’ meaning ‘to roll’ or ‘to form into a ball.’
For example, during the loading process of a cargo ship, the crew measures the volume of grain or fibers using bales as the unit of measure. By knowing the number of bales required to transport a certain amount of cargo, the crew can efficiently plan and execute the loading and unloading processes.
