Nautical Term: SWDD
Definition of SWDD
The Salt Water Departure Draft (SWDD) is a nautical term used to describe the amount of water that would be carried away from a vessel when it departs from the water and moves onto a land surface. For instance, if a large cargo ship with a draft of 12 meters (approximately 39.37 feet) departs from the water, the SWDD would be the amount of water that would remain in the vessel’s hold as it moves onto land. In practice, the SWDD is typically calculated by experienced mariners and navigators using specialized tools and techniques.
