Nautical Term: Pull-out manoeuvre
Definition of Pull-out manoeuvre
The pull-out maneuver is a specialized move employed to assess the directional stability of a ship. By executing this maneuver, a mariner can determine how effectively the rudder of the ship responds to various rudder angles.
For instance, during a vessel’s sea trial, the captain might request the pull-out maneuver to be performed by the ship’s deckhand. By observing the ship’s reaction to the maneuver, the captain can then make an informed assessment of the ship’s overall seaworthiness.
