Nautical Term: Breaming

Definition of Breaming

The process of removing barnacles, paint, and other accumulations from the underside of a ship is referred to as ‘Breaming’. This intensive cleaning process is usually carried out using high-pressure water jets or, in more extreme cases, with the assistance of a blowtorch.

For instance, During the annual shipyard maintenance, the crew discovered extensive growth of barnacles on the ship’s bottom. To ensure the vessel’s optimal performance and prevent any potential damage to the hull, the crew decided to employ the services of a professional breaming team to clean the barnacles from the ship’s bottom using the high-pressure water jets and other specialized equipment.
