Nautical Term: Cabotage
Definition of Cabotage
Cabotage refers to the transportation of goods between ports situated within the same country. This shipping activity is often restricted to national flag vessels of that specific nation.
For instance, suppose a company in France wants to import goods from Marseille to Bordeaux. In such a case, the French government may allow only French-flagged vessels to transport the goods between the two ports, in accordance with cabotage regulations.
