Nautical Term: Cable locker
Definition of Cable locker
A cable locker is a designated compartment or storage area, typically located at the forward part of a ship or boat. Its primary function is to securely store the anchor cable and associated equipment.
For instance, while sailing in rough seas, the crew of a boat might need to drop the anchor to ensure the boat remains stable. In such a situation, having the anchor cable neatly stored in the cable locker would make the process of deploying the anchor more efficient and safer for the crew.
