Nautical Term: SUPERCARGO
Definition of SUPERCARGO
A supercargo is an individual hired by a ship owner, shipping company, charterer of a ship, or shipper of goods, to oversee and manage cargo handling operations at the port. This role is often referred to as that of a port captain.
Example: During the voyage from Singapore to Rotterdam, the ship encountered rough seas and strong winds, which delayed the arrival at the port. To ensure the timely unloading and transshipment of the cargo, the ship owner engaged a supercargo to oversee the cargo handling operations at the port.
