Nautical Term: Camber

Definition of Camber

Camber refers to the transverse, convex curvature found on the exposed decks of a ship. This design feature is implemented with the intention of accelerating the runoff of rainwater or seawater. For instance, during heavy rainfall, the cambered decks on a ship channel water efficiently, reducing the overall weight on the ship and preventing potential flooding.
