Nautical Term: ADCOM

Definition of ADCOM

The term ‘Address Commission’ refers to a panel of experts, typically maritime lawyers and surveyors, who are convened to investigate and report on any issues or disputes related to the navigation, cargo handling, or other maritime operations on a vessel or at a port.

For example, when a container ship suffers damage to its hull during a storm, the Address Commission may be called upon to examine the damage, assess the cause and extent of the damage, determine liability, and recommend appropriate remedial actions to restore the vessel to full operational capacity.
