A caulker is a specialized maritime craftsperson. Their primary role is to maintain the watertight integrity of a vessel’s hull. They accomplish this by applying a pliable substance, known as caulk, into the seams and joints of the hull.
For instance, imagine a sailor noticing water seeping through the seams of their ship’s hull during a heavy storm. The sailor would then alert the caulker, who would immediately go to work, meticulously applying caulk into the affected seams, ensuring the watertightness of the hull is restored, thus safeguarding the vessel and its crew from the perils of the storm and the open sea.
