Definition of Chassis

A chassis is a type of frame that is equipped with wheels and container locking devices. The primary function of a chassis is to securely transport intermodal containers, such as shipping containers or railroad containers, from one mode of transportation to another. For example, a chassis may be used to move a shipping container from a cargo ship to a truck for onward transportation to a distribution center.
