Definition of Dead ahead

Directly in front of a ship, extending beyond the bow and along the fore and aft line.

For example: As the captain of the cargo ship, I’ve been navigating through the turbulent waters of the North Atlantic. With the storm approaching dead ahead, I’ve ordered my crew to batten down the hatches and secure all loose items on board.
