Nautical Term: Drag

Definition of Drag

Drag refers to the vertical distance between the forward and aft ends of a ship’s keel when the vessel is floating with its stern end down.

For instance, imagine a sailboat cruising on the open sea. If the sailboat’s stern is lowered to ensure stability in rough waves, the amount of drag present can affect the vessel’s performance and speed.
