Definition of STW
The term ‘STW’ stands for ‘Standards of Training and Watchkeeping.’ This set of standards, established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), sets the minimum requirements for training and certification for all seafarers and crew on international voyages. For instance, a ship’s master must hold a valid ‘Master’ certificate of competency, which can only be obtained by meeting the necessary training and experience requirements set out in the STW regulations.
