Nautical Term: DSC

Definition of DSC

DSC, or Digital Selective Calling, is a communication system used in maritime navigation. This system enables safety-related communication between ships and between ships and coastal stations. For instance, if a container carrying hazardous materials (HazMat) is transported by ship, the crew would use the DSC system to alert nearby ships and coastal stations of the HazMat container on board.
