Nautical Term: Flame screen

Definition of Flame screen

A flame screen is a specialized corrosion-resistant fine wire mesh screen, used for covering specific openings on tank vessels. This precautionary measure aims to prevent the passage of flame into the tank, thus minimizing the risk of fire spreading or tank explosions.

For instance, during a marine cargo transfer operation, if a fire breaks out on the receiving ship, the flame screen on the transferring ship will help to contain the fire, ensuring the safety of both ships and their crews.
