Definition of Ensign

(1) The ensign refers to the national flag that represents a country. (2) In addition, the term ensign also denotes a junior officer in the navy, who ranks above a seaman but below a lieutenant.

For instance, during a naval parade, the junior officers, including the ensigns, march in formation carrying their respective ensigns or national flags, signifying their commitment and loyalty to their country and naval service.
