Definition of Hand lead

A hand lead is a type of lead weight, which ranges from 7 to 14 pounds. This lead is used in conjunction with a hand lead line to determine the depth of water while entering or leaving a harbor. For instance, a sailor might use a hand lead to ensure they have enough depth to safely navigate their vessel into the harbor.
