Definition of Forward perpendicular

A line referred to as the ‘forward perpendicular,” is a line that is perpendicular to the keel line, and intersects the forward side of the stem at the designated load water line. For instance, in the construction of a sailboat, the forward perpendicular line is critical in determining the placement of the stem, as well as the positioning of other structural components, in relation to the keel and the load water line.
