Nautical Term: HMS
Definition of HMS
Heavy Metal Ships’ Stores refers to a specific type of naval supplies. These supplies, often identified by the acronym HMS, consist of heavy metal components, such as metal anchors, chains, and propellers.
For instance, during a routine naval inspection, the inspection team discovered several damaged anchors onboard a warship. To ensure the ship could continue its operations without further delay, the inspection team recommended the ship’s crew to replace the damaged anchors with new ones, preferably ones labeled as HMS.
By using heavy metal ships’ stores, naval vessels can maintain their essential components and continue their operations with minimal downtime.
