Nautical Term: Ice-bound

Definition of Ice-bound

Ice-bound refers to a vessel or structure that is immobilized due to the presence of ice in the surrounding waters or on the land. For instance, during extreme winter conditions, a cargo ship may become ice-bound if it encounters thick ice floes that prevent it from moving forward. In such cases, the crew must wait until the ice melts or thins enough for the ship to navigate safely through it.
