Definition of Inboard

Inboard’ refers to the side of a ship that is closer to the centerline or the ship’s axis (towards the center). For instance, if a ship’s engine or machinery is located ‘inboard’, it means that these components are positioned closer to the centerline of the ship.’

For example, in the following paragraph, ‘inboard’ is used to describe the location of a ship’s engine:

The cargo ship docked at the harbor. The ship’s crew worked tirelessly to unload the cargo. In the engine room ‘inboard’, the ship’s powerful engine hummed to life, powering the ship’s propellers and moving the cargo ship out of the harbor.
