Definition of DET

Detention, also referred to as DT or detained time, is a nautical term used to describe the time elapsed between the order to halt and the subsequent release of a vessel. For instance, if a tugboat is ordered to halt due to a collision investigation, the time between the order to halt and the subsequent release of the tugboat would be considered the detention time.
