Definition of Jury rig

A jury rig, also known as a makeshift or emergency rig, is a temporary solution for rigging a vessel when standard equipment is damaged, missing, or insufficient. For instance, during a storm, a sailor may need to jury rig a damaged sail or rigging by using available materials such as ropes, tarps, or spare parts.
