Definition of Building slip

A building slip is an inclined berth or ramp used for launching ships that have been built in a dry dock adjacent to the slip. For example, a shipbuilder constructs a new vessel in a dry dock connected to a building slip. Once the vessel is complete, it is launched onto the water using the building slip.
