Nautical Term: LWC

Definition of LWC

The Lost Workday Case (LWC) refers to a particular calculation method for estimating the compensable time loss when a seafarer is unable to work due to reasons beyond his control, such as injury, illness, or mandatory drills.

For instance, when a crew member aboard a cargo ship suffers an injury that leaves him unable to work for a few days, the LWC would be used to calculate the amount of wages the injured crew member is entitled to during his recovery period.
