Nautical Term: Marry

Definition of Marry

Marrying two ropes refers to the technique of joining the ends of two ropes so that the joint can successfully pass through a block. Additionally, marrying ropes can also refer to the process of laying two ropes alongside each other, allowing both ropes to be hauled on at the same time.

For example, During the sailing competition, the crew struggled to hoist the large jib sail.
