Nautical Term: Midship section

Definition of Midship section

The midships section of a vessel refers to a fully dimensioned sectional drawing that illustrates both the hull and superstructure’s principal structural members at the midships station. For instance, in a shipbuilding project report, it could be stated that ‘The midships section drawings revealed that the hull’s principal structural members, such as frames and transverse bulkheads, were properly aligned at the midships station. Similarly, the superstructure’s primary members, like pillars and beams, were shown to be correctly placed and adequately supporting the intended load.’
