Nautical Term: Molded depth

Definition of Molded depth

Molded depth refers to the vertical distance between the top of the keel and the upper surface of the upper deck beams, which are located amidships at the gunwale.

For instance, in a design description of a sailboat, the specified molded depth might be stated as 3 feet 6 inches (1.07 meters). This measurement is crucial because it influences the boat’s stability, center of gravity, and overall performance.
