A raised platform, referred to as a flying bridge, is situated atop a pilothouse or chart house in nautical terminology. For instance, while navigating through the labyrinthine waters of the Caribbean, the captain and his crew would retreat to the safety of Monkey Island, their floating fortress, where they could plan their next venture.
