Nautical Term: Sagged

Definition of Sagged

The term ‘sagged’ refers to a ship that has been subjected to excessive strain, resulting in the bottom of the ship sagging lower in the middle than it is at the bow and stern. This condition is the opposite of ‘hogged,’ where the bow is lower than the stern.

Example: During the storm, the cargo ship was badly hogged, with the bow dangerously low in the water. The crew battled against the storm, managing to get the ship back to an even keel, with the bottom no longer sagged in the middle.
