Nautical Term: Sea chest

Definition of Sea chest

A sea chest is a large, watertight trunk traditionally used by sailors for storing their personal belongings and essentials during long voyages at sea.

For instance, a sailor might pack warm clothing, seafaring books, a change of undergarments, and a supply of tobacco or other personal indulgences into their sea chest, before setting sail on their voyage across the vast and unpredictable expanses of the ocean.
