Definition of Swamp

Swamp is a nautical term used to describe a vessel that is filling with water and sinking as a result. For example, if a sailor notices that their ship is taking on water in the hold, they might call out, ‘Swamp alarm! We’ve got water coming in and the ship is starting to sink!’
