To transfer a loop of rope from one hand to another around a belaying pin or cleat, ensuring a secure hold on the rope.
For instance, in a sailing race, the helmsman might call out, Take a turn, Trim! As the crew member, named Trim, passes the turn of the rope around the cleat, they also adjust the sail’s position to optimize its efficiency in catching the wind.
