Nautical Term: VEF

Definition of VEF

The Vessel Experience Factor, also known as VEF, is a metric used in the maritime industry to evaluate the seaworthiness and overall experience of a vessel. This factor takes into account various elements such as the vessel’s size, design, stability, historical performance, and crew experience. For instance, a passenger ship with a high VEF score would offer a smoother and more enjoyable ride, even in rough seas, compared to a vessel with a lower VEF score.
