Definition of VLCC
A Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) is a type of tanker specifically designed to transport large quantities of crude oil. The deadweight capacity of a VLCC ranges between 160,000 and 320,000 tonnes.
Example: The multinational oil company, Petrobras, has recently taken delivery of a brand new Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) with a deadweight capacity of 318,000 tonnes. The state-of-the-art vessel, which is capable of transporting over 2 million barrels of crude oil per voyage, will be integrated into Petrobras’s global fleet of tankers and will be used to transport crude oil from various producing regions around the world to Petrobras’s refineries and processing facilities in Brazil and other countries.
