Nautical Term: Aground

Definition of Aground

Aground refers to a watercraft that has come into contact with the ocean or river bottom. This situation can occur due to various reasons such as navigational errors, strong currents, or shallow water depths. For instance, in a sailing race, a yacht may unintentionally veer off course and drift aground on a sandbar, temporarily halting its progress in the race.
