Definition of BUNDLING
Bundling refers to the process of gathering and assembling various pieces of cargo into one cohesive and manageable unit. This can be achieved through the use of securing devices, such as straps, lashings, or chains. Bundling is a highly flexible and adaptable concept, which can be applied to a wide range of cargo types and handling situations, in order to enhance the efficiency, safety, and economic viability of cargo operations at sea or in port.
For example, During the transatlantic voyage, the cargo crew onboard the container ship ‘Sea Hawk’ utilized the concept of bundling in order to optimize the cargo handling and stowage processes. By assembling the various pieces of cargo, including palletized goods, sacks of bulk commodities, and large, heavy machinery components, into manageable and secure bundles using the appropriate securing devices, the cargo crew was able to significantly enhance the efficiency, safety, and economic viability of the cargo handling and stowage processes onboard the ‘Sea Hawk’, during its transatlantic voyage.
