Nautical Term: Cargo door

Definition of Cargo door

A watertight door installed on the side of a ship’s hull, enabling the loading and unloading of cargo. This door is designed to maintain the ship’s watertight integrity, ensuring the safety of the vessel and its crew.

For instance, during the offloading process of a container ship at the port, the cargo doors are opened and the cargo handling equipment, such as cranes or forklifts, is used to load or unload the cargo from the ship into the storage area at the port.
