Definition of Chock

(In naval architecture) A compact piece of wood, employed to fill in any void or imperfection in a timber, tember, frame, or other construction component.

For example, if a shipbuilder notices a small crack in a timber supporting the hull, they would reach for a chock to fill in the crack and restore the timber’s structural integrity.
